Luminex and Canto Announce Joint Partnership and Technical Integration
San Francisco, CA - September 1, 1998 - Today at Seybold Seminars, Luminex and Canto announce a strategic partnership to provide a complete data management and archiving solution. Canto Cumulus, a leading media asset management product, works seamlessly with the leading CD recording and archiving solutions from Luminex. Joint partnership and technical integration of products by the companies will result in a seamless solution for customers that automates the process of archiving and media distribution.
Sammy Jimenez, Digital Image Tech/Librarian at Raley's Advertising Department states, "We use multiple Luminex CDR libraries on an SGI server, together with Canto Software's Cumulus for managing our 70,000 + digital image archives. Having both the power of Cumulus together with Luminex, takes a 'great load' off my back, not to mention, our busy server! It has since made it possible for me to STOP creating an 'on-line Monster,' while still, quickly, retrieving important images off-line. It makes sense for Luminex and Canto to work together to create simple, off the shelf solutions that leverage the values we already see with their products."
Luminex has developed a hot folder functionality to automate network recording and archiving. The hot folders allow the automatic creation of CDs on the server with files moved to a networked folder. Support for this feature has been integrated into the Cumulus product line. The integration has been developed to increase the functionality and simplify the process of using the products together, and is planned for general availability in October.
The cross-platform compatibility offered by the Luminex Fire Series software provides tremendous benefits to heterogeneous environments that need to share, archive or distribute data quickly. The Fire Series allows NFS, Windows, Macintosh, and NetWare clients to use the library transparently, and integrates with the complete product line from Canto.
Cumulus 4.0 works on UNIX, NT and Macintosh servers and facilitates cross-platform management on MacOS and Windows NT/95/98 workstations. Version 4.0 enables remote administration of the server from any client workstation, multiple levels of secured access, cross-platform royalty-free browsing, and access of image catalogs via the internet. Cumulus supports TCP/IP protocol and more than 100 file formats, including Quick/Time 3.
Luminex was founded in April 1994 with a dedicated focus on developing and marketing high performance CD and digital storage solutions.
