Mitigating Mainframe Security Risks for File Transfers & Lowering Software Licensing Costs

Data breaches are on the rise and the most popular point of malicious entry into any company’s network is often FTP Port 21. Mainframe security subject matter expert, Mark Wilson of RSM Partners will share insight into today's mainframe security risks and practical ways to mitigate them. Attendees will also learn how SecureTransfer can be used to shutdown Port 21 on the mainframe, improve the speed and efficiency of file transfers, using FICON channels instead of mainframe TCP/IP and reduce software licensing costs.

Speakers:

  • Colleen Gordon, Luminex Software
  • Mark Wilson, RSM Partners

Launch Party: MDI BigData Transfer

Join Luminex as we celebrate the launch of our latest Mainframe Data Integration product, BigData Transfer. MDI:BDT securely and efficiently moves data off the mainframe and into Hadoop File Systems, such as Azure Data Lakes and Apache Hadoop clusters and other big data technologies, without using TCP/IP. Don’t miss out as we celebrate the new way mainframe clients can take advantage of advancements in sharing mainframe data for data analytics with fun games, giftbags, prizes, and more!

Session #22526

Wednesday, March 14
4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Room: 304/305

A Successful Approach to Off-Hosting SAS/MXG Processing

Off-hosting mainframe SAS Language applications that process huge volumes of data can reduce monthly MLC charges and software licensing costs while improving performance and data agility. However, approaches that rely on TCP/IP to move mainframe data can impact any savings by adding costly system overhead and presenting a throughput bottleneck.

Attend this session to examine a real-life example in which SAS Language programs and MXG were taken off-host and executed on the Luminex MDI Platform. The speakers discuss setting up the environment, modifications required in the JCL, performance gains, MSU savings, and the final results.

Speakers:

  • Colleen Gordon, Luminex Software
  • Chuck Hopf, Merrill Consultants
  • Paul Massengill, Luminex Software
